Good Nutrition for Every Agelogo

Grant County Hunger Council–Our mission is to alleviate hunger, food insecurity, and the effects of poverty in Grant County through education, coordination, advocacy and service.  We have developed a Food Resource Guide listing programs and food pantries in Grant County that help families be more food secure. Also available are guides for Iowa County Food Pantries and Lafayette County Food Pantries.

Elderly Nutrition

Congregate and home delivered meals are provided to help older persons remain healthy, active and independent. There are 11 Senior Dining Sites in Grant County. Call the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 723-6113 or 1-877-794-2372 for information.

FoodShare Program

Purchase food at a grocery store with a plastic “SNAP Card”. Monthly benefit amounts are based on net income and household size. For more information and to apply, contact the Dept. of Social Services at 1-888-794-5780 or visit the web at www.access.wisconsin.gov

Vouchers to seniors and income eligible families for use at Platteville Farmer’s Market.  Call 348-4505 or 348-3992.

Free/Reduced School Meals

Free and reduced priced breakfast and lunch programs are available at Grant County Schools. Contact your child’s school for income guidelines and an application.

Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program (WNEP)

WNEP helps families improve their food security through education. Families of individuals who receive FoodShare (or who are eligible) can learn through WNEP. For more information, contact the Grant County UW-Extension Office at 723-2125.

Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC)

WIC provides food and nutrition information to help keep pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children under five years healthy and strong. Call the Grant County Health Dept. at 723-6416 or 1-800-338-3192 for the nearest location.

The Giving Garden

Local gardeners are encouraged to donate extra produce to senior meal sites and local food pantries.
